I read up on the themes of this album (the Cabrini Green housing project in Chicago) and holy shrimp that stuff is depressing, especially the story of Girl X. Nevertheless it’s fascinating, and the urban atmosphere suits it perfectly, very Odraza like. Aside from Odraza it also reminds me of that one Open Mike Eagle album Brick Body Kids Still Daydream, which is also about a controversial housing development Robert Taylor Homes in Chicago not far from Green. Similar atmosphere, even with two totally different genres.
