"Velvet Glove" was released in 1992. Back in time, it was the first album of Pyro, a French combo composed of three brothers (the Pyro brothers), who surfed on the wave of the numerous combos of "Hard Rock a la Française" (Trust, Satan Jocker, H Bomb etc?). This first album was a totally underground release and if you were already into the French scene and remember this name, you'll be able now to listen to it again through this re-edition produce by Thundering Records.

In 1992, Pyro used to play Hard Rock. Well, it was more a Hard Rock a bit FM a la Def Leppard than something similar to AC/DC but it was trendy in France to play such music and the band found the way to release this album even if it was a bit in a anonymous way. With their really good English singer Dave Danger (don't expect anything in French here) with his voice a la Biff Byford and with a lot of cool melodies, "Velvet Glove" was not a bad album. The melodies were catchy and all the ones who used to listen to easy of access and melodic Hard Rock and who found the way to buy this CD has probably enjoyed it a lot. Though right now, and that's the main problem of this re-edition, this is a bit too "old" and won't be attractive for a lot of people. Some music and songs will never be out of date but it's not the same for everybody unfortunately.

Where is the real interest of this album? Well, the nostalgic (French) people who used to listen to such music in the 80's and 90's and who has the chance to listen to this really underground album during this period of time will probably be happy to listen to it again but all the other ones who want something modern and original will have to go away. This is not a bad album composed of horrible songs but honestly now it really sounds out of date. Even the production (which was done by Renaud Hantson, Satan Jocker's leader) is a bit weak (but it's not so surprising, the album is not so young after all) so it's more like a collector now than anything else.

"Velvet Glove" is not a bad album but if it was underground in the 90's it will not become famous now too. It's clearly not a problem of quality, the Pyro brothers have composed some good Hard FM songs but it's not enough to catch the auditors of the 21 century. "Velvet Glove" is just out of date and recommended only for the ones who like Hard Rock, especially French Hard Rock.
