This one falls a bit out of my purview. I've never had the heart to tell Sonata Arctica that I just don't get it, and only recently have I finally been able to stand Stratovarius; I knew almost nothing about this project when I volunteered to review it, and upon investigating the line-up of this apparent super-type-group, I dreaded the flouncy, sing-song tedium I expected to find. As it happens, Cain's Offering have really hit something worth paying attention to.

Why does this have a rating on it if the album doesn't come out until May 19th?

It got released somewhere yesterday. I have no idea where, but it's supposed to be out somewhere. I still can't find a download.

Holy power metal. Not my usual genre but this is some excellent music. Awesome and catchy melodies. Not a bad track to be found although "Too Tired to Run" is a bit too mopey for me. The keys are great, as you'd expect from Jens, and the production is very full and clear. Best power metal I've heard in a good while. Favorite tracks: Stormcrow, Constellation of Tears, My Heart Beats for No One.

Something about Kotipelto's voice has always been therapeutic for me. I really cannot explain it - I know he's not the greatest vocalist objectively, but I do really enjoy him. And wow - this album is sounding mighty fine! The title track is very promising

After the first listen, I can definitely say this is album will become an instant classic!
Mr. Liimatainen did everything right correcting the previous attempt "Gather the Faithful" - and this album has the tone and edge that all old Sonata fans wished the band had. I find this album rather equal in par with golden era Sonata albums "Silence" and "Reckoning Night" with a spark of mr. Liimatainen's little touch.
Love it!

Key tracks: Stormcrow, I Will Build You A Rome, Constellation of Tears, Rising Sun & On the Shore.

The music on this album is good but Timo's vocal performance is a bit weak and not powerful enough. It sounds like an instrumental album with background vocals. If this would be sung by ... let's say Russell Allen, I would give it a 8 or 9.

Well, if you put in two Strato players in a band, and add a tiny bit of Liimatainen, you're pretty much in for a Strato combustion.

The vocals aren't very nice (but I just don't like his voice in general), but those keyboard leads are killer, and has really lifted this album's status from really average to good

First listen through and I'm really digging this. I hope other power metal bands are paying attention... THIS is how you write good power metal. Quit trying to sound grandoise and epic and just write DAMN CATCHY MELODIES. That's how you do it correctly.

Antemortem's opening is super Dark-Passion-Play-Nightwish haha

the song writing is really good. Constellation of Tears might be the best power metal track of the year. Too bad I'm still not too liking the vocals >.>

Constellation of Tears might be the best power metal track of the year.

That and Rising Sun are almost 100% recycled and unoriginal. So boring!

for recycling and unoriginality, you gave a very high score, let alone boring o.o
Anyway, they are recycled from which track if you don't mind showing me?

Just shows you how great some songs on this album are (about 7.6 rounded up). It's no wonder power metal fans here in Finland are drooling over this.

I Will Build You a Rome is basically the exact same thing structure wise as those two, also quite generic but still gets an "OK" from me (maybe because I heard it first, haha). Stormcrow is based on a similar idea but has a bit more variety.

I wouldn't dare listening to this album if it was sung by Russell Allen.
Not too fond of Timo's vocals, but he's perhaps the best fit for this album.
