Spires - To Enter Studio

It seems like progressive death metal quartet Spires has been busy since the release of Lucid Abstractions last year.

In a recent interview, frontman Paul Sadler stated: "What album, I never mentioned an album... Oh, the one we've been prattling on about seemingly for decades? Well, it's all written, and more or less all rehearsed and ready to be recorded except one song, so once we've got that down we'll be going into the studio. Unfortunately it's a very long song (no surprises there), so it could take a little while!"

Also on the topic of the new album's sound, he said: "Yeah I guess in certain ways it is a bit heavier overall, although all the more ambient and acoustic bits are still there. I'd say it's more extreme in both directions, and also uses a wider range of instruments, in a continuation of some of the ideas from Lucid Abstractions (acoustic mini-album). One of the main differences is that on most of the songs we are now using 7 string guitars, made by Paul Cuthbert (our guitarist), so that adds a whole new depth, quite literally, to our sound. I'd also say it's more progressive overall, in the sense that it pushes things further, and is more experimental, whilst still retaining a strong song-writing aesthetic."

In case you haven't heard of the band or their music, you can stream a large portion of their discography including a demo titled "The Fevered Spirit" off their upcoming album over at their ReverbNation page. Alternatively, two tracks are available on YouTube below from their Spiral Of Ascension album and Lucid Abstractions EP respectively.
