Finntroll - New Video Online

Finntroll proudly present their brand new video for the song "Under Bergets Rot" from their most recent album Nifelvind, which has topped several European charts in February 2010.

Guitarist Routa comments: "This video is definitely a very special video for us. We have been thinking of doing an animation video for years actually, but for some reason we never did it, until now. With the release of the Nifelvind album we were asked to do 2 video. Century Media gave us free hands to choose from which ever songs we wanted. The first video was made for "Solsagan" and was made by Finnish company Vasara Films. As we have always done our music videos by ourselves, as me being a writer and director with the full support of the rest of the band of course, it was very difficult to let someone else do it. Even though the basic concept came from the band, it still didn't feel right. After the "Solsagan" video we weren't 100% convinced about letting someone else do our videos. So we were thinking what to do with the next video...

We decided to do the second video for the song "Under Bergets Rot" and this one we were thinking about doing by ourselves as usual, just to get the right Finntroll-spirit into it. We got the idea of doing a video that's happening in this weird, out of this world jazz-club, where we would play as the house band. The story in the song is more or less about the song that this dude hears, and even though he hasn't heard the song before, he knows it and gets mesmerized by it. And while he's under the spell of this ancient song, he feels that only moments have passed, but then notices that years have gone by. So we wanted to take these ideas of time passing by and metamorphosis and add that to the video: this guy goes to this club, there's a weird band playing and he sees all kind of weird things and eventually ends up being one of them.

That's about it in a nutshell. We were supposed to do this like any normal video, with real actors and such, but we were about to go on the European tour. We realized that there's no chance we would have time to do this and there was no chance that I was going to edit it while on the road, haha. Then we thought that the only way we would get the video done is let someone else do it. We thought, "What the hell...this time let's do the animation one and let's go nuts with it." I called a few places in Helsinki that do animations and actually found out that one of our really old friends is doing animations nowadays. So we told her what we wanted and told her that the company she's working, Animaatiokopla, will have free reign with the video. We only hoped that they'll go over the top with it. Then we went on tour and after a month we got back and saw the final video and we were really satisfied with it. It has all the elements we wanted; weird things that go well with the music and even some gore. And most importantly, we finally got the animation video, haha. I wouldn't be surprised if we do another sometime in the future, but I can't promise anything yet."

Finntroll - New Album Details Revealed, Song Online

Original news, posted on 26.11.2009

Century Media Records press release

The last leaves have fallen in the old world of Europe, stripping down the trees to wooden skeletons, and a dark wind is blowing from the coldest north to freeze your souls. Finntroll will blow their new album Nifelvind across the withered earth on 22nd February 2010. Everybody who thought that the album title is Mot Skuggornas Värld should learn his lesson to never trust a Troll. Nifelvind was recorded at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki, Finland and mastered by Mika Jussila (add any big Finnish Metal band for namedropping) at Finnvox Studios. The album cover artwork was done again by the band's own guitarist Skrymer.

Finntroll comments on the album as follows: "After tough and hectic weeks in the studio, due to lack of time and summer festivals, we are now really, really pleased with the results. Nifelvind is the most advanced and mature Finntroll-album to date, with musical themes ranging from powerful death metal riffs to dark soundtracks, from pounding black metal to groovy 80's pop-music. All this is accompanied by our trademark sound, lots of never-before-heard instruments in the metal-scene, folklore and legends that make it overall the most versatile album we have created so far."

The tracklist reads as follows:

01. Blodmarsch (intro)
02. Solsagan
03. Den Frusna Munnen
04. Ett Norrskensdåd
05. I Trädens Sång
06. Tiden Utan Tid
07. Galgasång
08. Mot Skuggornas Värld
09. Under Bergets Rot
10. Fornfamnad
11. Dråp

Whereas the band's unique style has spawned an entire new genre that successfully blends black metal darkness with folkloristic melodies, in 2010 Finntroll shall proudly reclaim the folk metal throne and leave myriads of copycats crushed to pieces...

UPDATE (thanks to 21268)

In February 2010, Finntroll band will release its highly anticipated new slab of folk-rooted back metal hymns entitled Nifelvind. The album was recorded at Sonic Pump Studios (Apocalyptica, Amorphis, Ensiferum, etc.) in Helsinki, Finland and mastered by Mika Jussila (Children Of Bodom, Sonata Arctica, Him, etc.) at Finnvox Studios. The album cover artwork was done again by the band's own guitarist Skrymer and visually captures the true FINNTROLL spirit perfectly.

Now, the band presents you the first track from this opus, "Under Bergets Rot", at its redesigned MySpace page.

Nifelvind will be released on the following dates:

Finntroll - Sign With Century Media Records

Official press release

Finntroll, Century Media Records and King Foo Entertainment announce the signing of a worldwide deal to unleash the next three Finntroll albums.

Jens Prueter, Head of A&R at Century Media Europe: "We are proud to sign Finntroll worldwide to Century Media Records. We started working with them in 2001 when we licensed "Jaktens Tid" and the following two albums from their previous label Spinefarm for release in Germany, Benelux and North America. Since then we became good friends going through great times like a massive co-headline show at Wacken 2006 (to be seen on the "Ur Jordens Djup" bonus DVD), the experience of a Fisherman's Friend Vodka Cocktail and many other great moments blurred by further alcohol abuse. And we also went through bad times like Teemu "Somnium" Raimorantas funeral, the day we had to bring Tundra to a doctor because his infected feet was already smelling bad and the Earthshaker Roadshock Tour 2007 that was cancelled after a few shows because of disastrous organisation. Apart from that, we just love Finntroll for their unique dark blend of traditional Finnish hoedown-music and folky black metal. There are only a few bands in metal that have such a unique style and we can't wait to hear the upcoming album. Kippis!"

Finntroll adds: "Yeah, that's right peeps. We're most enthusiastic to announce our signing with Century Media Records. We decided to continue our long co-op with Century Media, thanks to Jens 'very special' Prueter and Mr. Rosie of King Foo. Finntroll felt it's time to work directly with Century Media this time as we have all the trust with them and they have never let us down in the past. Our new album will be released worldwide through Century Media in early 2010, and with that said we're gonna do some heavy touring, that's gonna start in February in Europe and after that we're gonna sail across the ocean to North America. See ya on the road!"
